Bulgur Too Wet

Your bulgur is soggy because it absorbed too much water. Dry it gently and add texture.

Part of grains cooking fixes and soggy food fixes .

soggy texture clumped grains vegan

Ingredients on hand

  • cooked bulgur
  • sheet pan
  • oven
  • olive oil
  • herbs

Why it happened

Bulgur hydrates quickly. Excess water makes the grains swell and stick, so dry heat restores separation.

The fix

Save
  1. 1 spread bulgur on a sheet pan and bake at 300F for 6 minutes
  2. 2 toss with 1 teaspoon olive oil to separate grains
  3. 3 add herbs and lemon zest for freshness

If it's still wrong

  • Pan-fry with oil for 3 minutes to add crunch.
  • Use as a base for a warm grain bowl.

Prevent next time

  • Use a 1:1 ratio of bulgur to water.
  • Cover and rest off heat to absorb evenly.

Notes

Why this works

Dry heat removes surface moisture and separates the grains. A little oil coats the bulgur so it stays fluffy rather than sticky.

Substitutions

  • olive oil butter
  • herbs scallions
